A new technology-assisted option for gait and mobility training is now available at Unity Move Physical Therapy & Wellness.

At Unity Move, we are always looking for practical ways to combine rehabilitation expertise with innovative technology to help our patients move more safely, efficiently, and confidently.

We are excited to introduce WIM S Wearable Mobility as part of our physical therapy and gait training services.

What Is WIM S?

WIM S is a lightweight wearable mobility device designed to assist walking and movement. Weighing approximately 1.6 kg (3.5 lb), the system can be worn during walking and functional mobility activities while allowing the user to move naturally.

Rather than replacing movement, WIM S can be incorporated into physical therapy to support repetitive, task-specific gait practice while the therapist continues to work on balance, strength, coordination, endurance, and walking mechanics.

How We Use WIM S in Physical Therapy

At Unity Move, technology is not used as a stand-alone treatment. WIM S is integrated into an individualized rehabilitation program based on each patient's movement limitations and goals.

During a treatment session, WIM S may be combined with:

  • Overground walking and gait training

  • Treadmill training

  • Balance and postural-control exercises

  • Functional mobility activities

  • Strength and endurance training

  • Changes in walking speed and direction

  • More intensive repetitive walking practice

Our physical therapist continuously observes how the patient moves and adjusts the training program based on the patient's performance.

Who May Benefit?

WIM S-assisted gait training may be considered for individuals who have difficulty with walking, mobility, endurance, or lower-extremity movement.

Depending on the individual's evaluation and rehabilitation goals, it may be incorporated into treatment for people working to improve mobility following a neurologic condition, injury, illness, or age-related decline in walking ability.

Because every person's movement problem is different, we first evaluate whether wearable mobility training is appropriate and determine how it can best be incorporated into the rehabilitation program.

Technology + Individualized Physical Therapy

One of the principles behind Unity Move is that advanced technology works best when it is paired with careful clinical assessment and individualized treatment.

WIM S gives us another tool to help patients practice walking while we address the underlying factors that may limit mobility.

Our goal is not simply to help someone walk farther during a therapy session. We want to help our patients develop the strength, balance, movement strategies, and confidence needed for greater independence in everyday life.

Interested in Trying WIM S?

If you or a family member is working to improve walking and mobility, ask us whether WIM S-assisted gait training may be appropriate for your rehabilitation program.
